The Parenting Hack I Didn’t Know I Needed

Toy boats and small die-cast cars spread across a wet bath board, with one car parked in the tablet groove

At 28, I’m a full-time single mum to two energetic little boys, ages three and five. Between work, school-day preparations, laundry, dishes, and keeping up with two growing appetites, evenings can feel like a race against the clock. I love being a mum, but finding little ways to make family life easier can feel like winning the lottery.

One of the most useful gifts I received before my youngest was born was a Waverley Bath Board at my baby shower. Back then, I used it as a handy place to keep things close while bathing my baby boy. As he grew, the board gradually found its way into the background of our bathroom.

Then, one evening, I realized it could be useful all over again.

Now that both boys are old enough to play together in the tub, bath time can be a little chaotic. They want the same toys, splash into each other’s space, and somehow turn a simple evening routine into a series of negotiations. Meanwhile, I’m trying to get lunches ready for tomorrow, finish the laundry, and clean up the dishes from dinner.

That’s when our Waverley Bath Board came back into rotation.

It gives the boys a shared place to put their bath toys while helping define their own little spaces in the tub. They can play together without everything getting mixed up, and there’s less grabbing, arguing, and crying over who gets what. Now I’m cheating time by combining play time, evening snack time, and bath time all in one peaceful event. It’s not magic, of course — they’re still three and five! — but anything that makes bath time more peaceful is a win in my book.

What I especially appreciate is that the Waverley board is made with VOC-free, food-grade-safe stains and sealants. Knowing the surface is designed with family use in mind gives me extra peace of mind. If I leave some suitable snacks nearby for the boys to share, I feel more comfortable knowing the board’s finish is free of harmful solvents and chemical emissions. I still supervise them around the bath, of course, but it’s one less thing to worry about.

As a busy single mum, I’m always looking for practical parenting hacks that save time and make our home feel calmer. I never expected a baby-shower gift to become such a useful part of family life years later.

The Waverley Bath Board has been such a pleasant surprise. Sometimes the best parenting tips aren’t complicated at all — they’re simple little solutions that help make everyday life with kids easier, happier, and much more peaceful.
