Tuesday and Thursday: My Bathtub Is the Best Theatre in the House

A tablet and a bowl of noodles with chopsticks on a bath board across a dim tub, a candle burning in the corner tray

I’m Aimee, cat mom of three, and I love my career. I love having goals, chasing opportunities, and feeling like I’m building something for myself. But let’s be honest: being career-focused can mean spending far too much of your life staring at screens, answering emails, and thinking about tomorrow’s to-do list.

At some point, I realized I needed a better way to switch off.

Now, I’ve always been a film nut. Give me a clever psychological thriller, a twisty mystery, or a dark comedy with a strong female lead, and I’m happy. I love getting lost in a good story, especially one that makes me forget about work for a little while.

So, I decided to create my own little escape. And yes, I’m pretty proud of how I made it happen: I bought myself a Waverley Bath Board and cleverly used my work’s health spending account to cover it. I checked that it qualified under my plan, of course. A little self-care with some financial savvy? HELLO! Delivered to my desk.

During the week, my bath board earns its keep as a handy shelf for my shampoo, conditioner, deep-conditioning hair mask, body scrub, facial cleanser, exfoliating mitt, moisturizers, and all those special shower and bath products that somehow multiply in a woman’s bathroom. It keeps everything organized and within reach.

But Tuesdays and Thursdays? Those are sacred.

Those are movie nights, and my bathtub is officially the best theatre on the block.

I run a warm bath, dim the lights, set out a candle, grab my popcorn bowl, and pour myself a cold bubbly or a glass of wine. Then I set my tablet in the bath board, settle in, and cue up the movie.

And can we talk about the wine notch for a second? It has its own little spot for my glass. It’s brilliant. No awkward balancing act, no trying to squeeze everything onto the edge of the tub. The board holds my popcorn, my drink, my candle, and still leaves ample room for my tablet. With my foot I can actually reach the faucet knob for more hot water every 20 minutes, board uninterrupted.

It’s the whole experience. The atmosphere, the comfort, the movie, and that wonderful feeling of finally having nowhere else to be.

I used to think unwinding meant scrolling on the couch while half-thinking about work. Now, twice a week, I give myself permission to properly clock out. No emails. No deadlines. Just me, a good film, and a bath that feels like a tiny luxury hotel.

This Waverley Bath Board might look like a simple bathroom accessory, but for me, it helped turn an ordinary bath into a ritual I genuinely look forward to.

Because being ambitious doesn’t mean you have to be switched on every minute of the day.

Sometimes, the smartest thing you can do for yourself is close the laptop, run the bath, and enjoy the show.
